As we approach the Reagan Reunion, I would be remiss if I didn’t reflect on the “Great Communicator.”
Former Reagan speechwriter Ken Khachigian wrote, “What made him the Great Communicator was Ronald Reagan’s determination and ability to educate his audience, to bring his ideas to life by using illustrations and word pictures to make his arguments vivid to the mind’s eye.” Thus, Reagan’s effectiveness as a public speaker earned him this esteemed moniker.
As a child, my family often made trips up to Alexandria, MN, to visit my grandmother and grandfather. Oh, how we looked forward to that drive, the fast food, and the weekends we’d share with them–Grandpa showing me how to fix things in the garage, raising the flag each morning as a proud veteran to honor America, grandma making lots of food, running around town, playing pickup baseball games with my cousins all hours of the day, and sitting on the patio listening to Twins baseball games on my grandpa’s little radio. I share this with you because one of my most vivid memories is trailing my grandmother around asking, “Grandma do you like Reagan?” Each time I’d get a sigh, but she would also entertain my very short stature and laugh. Still to this day when I think of Ronald Reagan, I think of my grandmother’s warm smile and big hugs while she sighed when I’d ask her, “Grandma do you like Reagan?”
As Chairman, I would personally like to invite you to the 2nd Annual Reagan Reunion “A Night to Unite” on October 22nd from 4 PM – 10 PM at Ready Randy’s in New Richmond. Visit https://stcroixgop.com/event/reagan-reunion/ to view the event schedule and purchase your tickets. We also hope you’ll encourage a neighbor, friend, or co-worker to come and enjoy an evening of uniting around fellowship in community.
President Ronald Reagan delivered a speech in 1982 to members of the British Parliament in the Royal Gallery at the Palace of Westminster in London. In this speech he stated:
Let us ask ourselves, “What kind of people do we think we are?” And let us answer, “Free people, worthy of freedom and determined not only to remain so but to help others gain their freedom as well.”
In closing, please visit www.stcroixgop.com to secure your tickets today so that we may gather together for a night to unite. For questions, please contact Matt Bocklund at m.bocklund@stcroixgop.com.
I look forward to seeing you on October 22nd as we celebrate in community.
